Program supported by The Claire M. Hubbard Foundation

Sunday, September 8
Free Admission for attendees | Regular museum admission after 12:30pm

Children and adults with special needs and their families are invited to attend Sensory Friendly Sunday – a morning at the Museum for families to experience the new fourth floor and participate in activities in a more quiet, supportive environment.

At this event, certain areas of the museum will be altered to best be accessible for everyone. Where possible, exhibit sounds will be turned down or off.

Pre-registration to this event is suggested but not required. Registration comes with information that will help you plan your visit.

This morning includes:
  • Join librarians from Lincoln City Libraries for Storytime at 11:00am, 11:30am, and 12:00pm. Enjoy music, movement, and stories in Elephant Hall.
  • Free planetarium experience. During this morning, Mueller Planetarium will have an open door so that you can come and go as you please. A show will be playing on loop.
  • Feel animal hides, dig in a sandbox, and explore items at a touch table. Different tactile objects are available throughout the Museum for touch, including our watershed table. The watershed table contains paper mulch. Many objects are available to touch in the fourth floor Science Exploration Zone and the first floor Discovery Center.
  • Sensory kits will be available at the front desk. Each kit includes noise-cancelling headphones, earplugs, and different fidgets to use while in the Museum. You will be asked to give your license to the front desk while you are using the kit and you can pick it back up when you leave.

The Museum will open to the public at 12:30 pm, however, families are welcome to stay in Morrill Hall and continue to enjoy the exhibits as long as you like.

Please contact Jen Ruyle, museum educator, at 402-472-6302 with specific questions.
